We do love living in Portland. A few weeks ago, we went out apartment-hunting on round one. We’re not quite ready to take the leap, but we will be soon and it’ll give us lots to share on the blog as we learn to live on our own yet again.

Of course, one of the great draws of living in Portlan is the great restaurants. There are seriously so many great places to eat in this town. A great spot we discovered recently is Ten01, which is in the Pearl District. It was voted the best restaurant in Portland last year, but we were feeling a little poor when we went, so we hit up happy hour and I am not exaggerating when I say that the burger above ($5) was one of the best I’ve ever had. Not to mention I’m dieting, so the smaller size of this burger was completely perfect.

Speaking of dieting, I’m going on a little quest to lose 15 pounds by the 4th of July - it’s weight I’ve needed to get off for awhile, and since I’ve got a busy wedding season this summer, I want to be a lighter version of myself so I can keep up with all my hard work. The above shirt is a shirt I totally fell in love with at J. Crew last week, and my mom told me that she’d buy it for me if I hit my goal by the date set - so far, so good - I’m about ten days in and I’ve lost 6.5 pounds already! I’m way ahead of schedule. So stay tuned for pictures of me photographing a wedding in my shiny new champagne-colored blouse this summer!

I’ll leave you with this non-dieting image (although if you run enough, gelato can be a reality of everyday life!) We stopped by Mio Gelato in the Pearl last week also, after our fantastic happy hour burgers. I totally recommend the cinnamon, pictured here. Happy sunny weekend, and I’ll blog again soon!

Eric and I ventured downtown Portland today, first to meet my dear friend Megan from high school to do a portrait shoot - she’s so cute! Eric was my dutiful reflector-holder, and it was the first time he’s been along on a shoot with me!

After the shoot, we walked around a bit and then decided that we wanted to eat at the highly-acclaimed Kenny and Zuke’s Deli, located between 10th & 11th on NW Stark.

Eric and I had a discussion the other day: What meal is your favorite? We both settled on breakfast. I see lunch as rather expendable, because I think of sandwiches and other typical “lunch” fare as being just a means to an end, a cure for hunger.

Because of this apathy toward lunch and dear love for breakfast, brunch is the ultimate meal for me. It’s breakfast food at lunch time, which means that if you time it right, you can have two fantastic meals in one day instead of settling for dumb lunch in the middle. A perfect food day is possible. And you can sleep in.

We know we’ve been slacking a little lately, but we promise to turn it around. So before we start our new phase in Pacific City, Oregon (more later), we wanted to drop a few names because we’ve had some great food and drink lately in the Portland area. Unfortunately, we were caught without the camera every time, so there’s just one lowly iPhone photo that’s a little on the blurry side.

This was taken at Por Que No? Taqueria. There are several locations in Portland, but we went to the Hawthorne location with our friends Erin and Ashley this week and we can highly recommend the tamale plate, the Bryan’s Bowl and the Porque Plate. Great guac, too.
After Por Que No, we headed over to the Horse Brass, which has a completely incredible long list of microbrews and artisan beers. Ashley and I had the Black Cherry Stout from a brewery in Stevenson, Washington, and it was basically like the Cherry Coke of beers.
We also visited the Doug Fir Lounge lately (twice!) and they have pretty good drinks and killer atmosphere. They even have a “Dark and Stormy” on the menu made with our favorite, Reed’s Ginger Beer. We went yesterday on our way out of town with Katy and her boyfriend Ryan who were doing a whirlwind tour of the Pacific Northwest before Ryan heads back to Texas.

We know, we know. We already told you about Oasis. It’s our favorite Lebanese spot, and it exists right in the middle of strip-mall mania in Beaverton. Which means, of course, that we can walk there.

Today we walked there, and enjoyed a hummus plate. Never have we tasted hummus so smooth and fluffy. I had a chicken shawerma and Eric a falafel sandwich. You can get any of five sandwiches at lunchtime for $4.95, which is a killer deal and we love it. Please go check it out. It scares us when it’s empty because we don’t ever want it to go away.
