Too much of a good thing?

Club 647, round two

A couple of weeks ago, when we ate at 647 in San Telmo, we were blown away. Tremendous service, outstanding food, wonderful cocktails and sweet, creamy desserts totally made our night, and we enjoyed every minute of it and raved about it on the blog. After that post, we got a great comment from Catharine and John who are also American expats in Buenos Aires. We agreed to meet up and go to dinner, and we decided on the 647. Even despite our great culinary adventures this week, we really looked forward to going back to where we’d had one of the best meals of our lives.

Tonight, the 647 was still just as cool as it was before, but something was missing. It may have been the novelty. It wasn’t quite as surprising around every turn as the first time. It wasn’t a new discovery anymore, not quite as shiny. But then, we’ve set the bar amazingly high here.

What did make tonight’s visit to 647 even better than the last one was the company. Catharine and John are so fun and super intelligent, which always makes for great dinner conversation. She’s studying psychology and applying for graduate programs, and he’s a graduate student at Penn - an ethnomusicologist! Also, we love the friends we’ve met here, but it is nice sometimes to meet up with a couple of people so you get that guy/girl balance thing going on. Catharine and John, it was great to meet you guys tonight! We look forward to lots more exciting dinners in the future.

What’s your secret?…you guys are eating wonderful food, and it appears lots of it, and yet…you both look wonderful!!! Is it that you are walking every place you go? or do the Argentinians have some way of making the most beautiful food I’ve ever seen minus the calories!! Whatever it is, it’s working out well for you two!
    Love and miss you, Mom
